greetings from the author
Hi there, and welcome to my personal journal of my experiences at the Columbia Publishing Course (CPC), or as some refer to it, Publishing Boot Camp. Who am I? Just another hopeful student, fresh out of college and hungry for a hunking piece of the publishing pie. (That fits the description of just about everyone at the course!) I was one of the 100 applicants picked for this program. Believe me, I was lucky, considering that there have been a reported 350 applicants in total. If you’d like to know more about me, check out the About page of this blog to quench your curiosity.
Over the next six weeks, I’ll be reporting on what I’ve learned, what I’ve accomplished and, of course, what I’ve screwed up along the way. That last part is purely to keep me honest and humble. (Plus, I know that you’d probably like that kind of stuff.) I will also, on occasion, talk about what it’s like being at Columbia University.
By the end of this course I’ll have collected a massive amount of pictures of the school, so don’t fret. You’ll see everything from the neoclassical Greco-Roman buildings and sculptures to the sparse office-like dorm rooms. I’ll also explore the areas outside Columbia University to give you a picture of New York and what it might be like to work here in the publishing field.
This will undoubtedly be a learning experience for me, and I hope you’ll learn something too (even if it is that the CPC is not for you.) Stay tuned because this ride is going to get rolling fast in very little time.
